First Introduction
What is GSAK you might ask yourself?
GSAK is if you look very simple on a database to keep track of your caches, but it does much more than that:
- You can have multiple databases
- Send and receive waypoints from to / from your GPSr,
- Show cache on Google Maps
- Convert / export to many different card formats
- Export to PDAs, both as HTML and cache mate (Palm, PocketPC & Smartphone)
- Very Comprehensive search and filter options
- Backup and Restore of your databases and settings
- And last but not least the ability to create and use macros programmed in GSAK's macro language.
Here are some of the things I use GSAK to:
- I use it to load my Pocket Queries (PQ'er) in so I can maintain a complete database of all Danish caches.
- f I nterests) som jeg læser over på min GPSr. From there I generate POI (P oints O f In nterests) as I read over on my GPSr.
- After a cache trip I save the final coordinates of the multi-caches and mystery caches as corrected coordinates of the caches I have found and the steps in a multi-cache waypoints as child of the cache they belong.
- I write my cache logs in GSAK and log it via GSAK on geocaching.com if it comes on a few pieces otherwise I use a macro to create a field-notes file that I uploaded to geocaching.com and then I can quickly log caches using an iMacros for Firefox.
- I use User-Note box to record things that are worth remembering about the cache:
- it was a special hiding place
- whom I found the cache with the fact
- must be remembered that some information will be used to find other caches with
- Calculations have been made to cache the trip to find the individual steps in a multi-cache,
- calculations, or else I have been home to solve a mystery cache.
- I use GSAK's embedded Google Maps map to see where the caches are and a split-screen macro that displays multiple caches at a time on a Google Maps map to plan how several caches can be such. a forest.
- I have created several databases in addition to the one I normally use for travel or other projects.
- And finally, I programmed in GSAK's built-in macro language allows you to utilize many more of GSAK's facilities. It is primarily my GarminCsvPoiExport macro as I work on and develop.
GSAK is free to download and use, and full function skillfully, but after 21 days you will experience a delay monitor (nag-screen) that takes longer and longer to disappear (1 sec. Per. Day you use GSAK) . To get the screen to disappear, you must purchase and register GSAK and it costs $ 25 and it is done via the GSAK website at gsak.net where you can also download the program.
GSAK also has an excellent user forum at gsak.net / board . There can also be continuously available fault directions for the program (patches) are so frequently gather in an updated version.
